Knee Pain

Vancouver, BC

What causes knee pain?

The most common causes of knee pain are due to acute injury, chronic overuse and medical conditions such as infections, gout or arthritis.

What treatments can be done?

The most common knees we treat are those who have sustained an injury or suffer from Osteoarthritis of the knee. We have great success treating these types of  knees. The treatments we provide are prolotherapy, durolane injection (hyaluronic acid) and Platelet Rich Plasma therapy. Knees respond very well to these treatments. Most patients will only require 1-3 treatments. We may also use PEMF and acupuncture to treat knee pain.

How do I know what treatment would be best for me?

Dr. Santos will examine your knee and perform an ultrasound. It is always best to bring any imaging results to the visit. Most patients will start with prolotherapy first because we have a great success rate with this treatment and it is also cheaper for the patient. If there is little or no response after the treatment then either Durolane or Platelet Rich Plasma therapy will be recommended.

Are there any side effects?

The treated knee might feel a bit stiff and slightly sore immediately after the treatment. This can last for a few hours to a few days. It is tolerated very well. If need be, a Tylenol can be taken to relieve any discomfort. But most patients tolerate the treatment very well. There is also a minor risk of infection whenever a needle punctures the skin; however, we use sterilized needles and sterile technique to minimize this risk.

How much will this cost?

The Prolotherapy is $150, Durolane injection $450, and Platelet rich plasma $300
